Job Purpose | The Winthrop Region Small Business Development Center utilizes the intellectual resources of Winthrop University to provide high-impact consulting to small businesses, scalable startup businesses, and non-profits in five South Carolina counties. Consultants at Winthrop Regional SBDC focus on understanding client companies and diagnosing business issues that can be explored through consulting engagements. |
Duties and Responsibilities | This may include the following: • Financial, operational, marketing and web site analysis to gain an accurate understanding of a client’s existing business. • Assisting start-up businesses with business plan development and financial projections/forecasts obtained through Risk Management Association (RMA) financial ratio benchmarks. • Industry research to help clients understand the business environment and current trends or other information as the Director indicates. • Business data analysis to diagnose issues that inhibit business growth. • Functions to support the operations of the Center which may or may not include such things as industry research, administrative assistance, planning and presenting outside seminars or workshops as required, web site/ blog management, and management of social media for public relations and visibility purposes. • Educating and assisting new and existing small business clients through onsite visits at their location. • Networking within the business community to enhance the visibility of the SBDC and the services offered. • Direct clients to other appropriate sources of business information and assistance. • Challenge your capacity |
Qualifications | • Have strong oral and written communication skills • Possess strong analytical skills and demonstrate the ability function effectively in a team environment * Be enrolled in or accepted into Winthrop’s Graduate Business School program • Have accountability for client relationships, confidentiality, and conflict of interest issues. • Be self-motivated, flexible and innovative in consulting with a variety of clients and business concepts • Be creative and comfortable with ambiguity • Have a desire to make a difference in the building of an individual’s small business • Ability to research and interpret results to suggest solutions to clients’ business needs and issues • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher. and Canva creative development application |
Preferred Skills | * Previous relevant professional work experience * Have a broad base of business knowledge and ability to work on multiple projects/tasks simultaneously. * Ability to access and understand the tools and technologies needed to perform SBDC tasks including use of the cloud technology and social media tools * Knowledge of Digital/Social Media Marketing strategies and techniques * Basic understanding of Financial Statements and financial analysis * Fluency in Spanish as a second language is a plus in order to serve our growing South Carolina Hispanic market. |
