Job Purpose
Reporting to the Executive Director of Institutional Effectiveness, the Director of Assessment facilitates the assessment efforts of the university’s academic, administrative and student support units.
Job Summary
  • Supports the ongoing development and implementation of comprehensive assessment for all academic, administrative and student support units: Develops and delivers periodic targeted training and professional development for faculty and staff regarding assessment best practice; meets with faculty and staff individually, as needed, to enhance assessment work and reporting; and develops assessment resources to support faculty and staff and update the website.
  • Educates, supports and manages the work of the university’s three institutional assessment committees (academic, administrative and student support): Provides extensive training on the assessment process to new committee members and refresher training to returning members; facilitates a rubric norming session for all committee members; supports committee members as they apply a common rubric to assessment reports; and recruits new members to maintain appropriately sized committees.
  • Manages the assessment reporting process for all academic, administrative and student support units: Updates all assessment templates and resources; communicates with faculty and staff regarding submission materials and deadlines and sends reminders, as appropriate; and manages a homegrown assessment reporting software for faculty report submission and Blackboard for staff report submission.
  • Collaborates with the Director of General Education in assessing the General Education program.
  • Documents the continuous improvement efforts of divisions and colleges.
  • Partners with the Director of the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) in assessment efforts and collaborates in the writing of the QEP Impact Report.
Required Qualifications
Master’s degree in education, curriculum and instruction, assessment and evaluation, social sciences, or closely related field from a regionally accredited institution. At least three years of direct experience in higher education assessment, curricular and co-curricular assessment, or student success; experience working with planning/assessment software; and experience working with faculty and staff to identify appropriate assessment efforts.
Preferred Qualifications
Ph.D. or Ed.D. in education, curriculum and instruction, assessment and evaluation, social sciences, or closely related field from a regionally accredited institution. Five years of direct experience in higher education assessment, curricular and co-curricular assessment, or student success; teaching experience—formally or informally through various assessment initiatives; and experience drafting/assisting with SACSCOC compliance reports.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Summary
Knowledge of the assessment process and its application to academic, administrative and student support units. Working knowledge of SACSCOC Principles of Accreditation. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment and successfully coordinate a broad range of activities and manage multiple concurrent short- and long-term projects. Proven ability to work effectively with diverse constituencies. Must demonstrate high degree of accuracy and exceptional attention to detail. Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
